Details
Vinyl plays nicely (play-graded). Cover has a few creases near edges; light-scuffing (front/back). Inner-sleeve is original (generic white). Spine is easy-to-read with mild-wear. Minor shelf-wear along top/bottom-edge and corners. Opening is crisp with signs of light use and divots. (Not a cut-out.)
Marry Me a Little by Stephen Sondheim is a studio cast recording of a 1980 off-Broadway revue that compiles songs cut from his various musicals, presenting them as a cohesive song cycle about two isolated individuals in New York apartments whose inner lives intersect through shared themes of longing and connection. The album features performers Suzanne Henry and Craig Lucas, with arrangements by David Loud, delivering intimate interpretations of these "trunk songs" that had previously circulated informally among enthusiasts. Fan-favorites include the poignant title track "Marry Me a Little" originally cut from Company, the wistful "There Won't Be Trumpets" from Anyone Can Whistle, the tender "So Many People" from Saturday Night, and the reflective "Uptown, Downtown" excised from Follies. Historically significant for being one of the earliest efforts to officially record and preserve Sondheim's discarded compositions, it elevated many of these pieces to staple status in concerts and cabarets. This release stands out for its innovative structure, transforming unrelated cut songs into a narrative arc without dialogue, highlighting Sondheim's versatility in exploring urban solitude and romance.
