About The Record:

Entertainers on and off the Record, by Statler Brothers, captures the group's signature blend of heartfelt country-gospel harmonies and nostalgic storytelling, featuring a mix of original compositions and classic covers that evoke small-town American life in the mid-20th century. A unique aspect of the album is its inclusion of a live recording for the opening track Do You Know You Are My Sunshine, adding an energetic, performance-like authenticity to the collection, while narrative-driven songs like The Official Historian on Shirley Jean Berrell showcase their talent for weaving poignant, biographical tales. Historically significant as part of the Statler Brothers' consistent output of thoughtfully crafted albums during their peak commercial years, it exemplifies their role in shifting country music's nostalgic lens from rural roots to idealized small-town memories, complete with high school dances and classic films. Fan-favorites among devotees include the tender Who Am I to Say, praised for its emotional depth, alongside reflective tracks like When You Are Sixty-Five and Before the Magic Turns to Memory, which resonate with themes of love, aging, and enduring bonds. The album yielded hit singles such as Do You Know You Are My Sunshine peaking at No. 5 and Who Am I to Say reaching No. 15 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, underscoring the group's enduring appeal in the genre.
