Seal In Red, by Rufus, served as the band's final album under their MCA Records contract, prompting a switch to Warner Bros. and the recruitment of Ivan Neville as a new vocalist following Chaka Khan's departure from the group. Produced by George Duke and recorded at Ocean Way Recording Studios with overdubs at Le Gonks West, it featured guest appearances from notable musicians like Patti Austin, Ernie Watts, James Pankow of Chicago, and percussionist Paulinho Da Costa. A unique highlight is the dramatic track Blinded By The Boogie, co-written by keyboardist David "Hawk" Wolinski, who contributed significantly to the album's songwriting. Fan-favorites include the upbeat opener Take It To The Top, the smooth You Turn Me All Around, and the soulful I'm Saving This Love Song. Though it did not produce any hit singles, the album remains a noteworthy, if underrated, transitional effort in Rufus's discography, blending funk, R&B, and pop elements.
